Kids obsession for Dinosaurs is unbelievable. I have got some of the best responses while doing this activity. AJ and his friends were ecstatic about digging Dino’s. One of them even said that, “He may want to become a palaeontologist”. This is the kind of impact an activity/role play has on kids, it gives them so much exposure. Dinosaurs are extinct and Dino fossils are very precious, they understood the concept and with teamwork accomplished the activity.
The idea to make yourown Excavation kit is to keep it budget friendly. You can make this again if your child enjoys it a lot too.
Setting up the Dino Dig:
1. Plaster (Available at any local hardware store)
2. Dino fossils (I used the 3D puzzle pieces as dino bones), Mini Dinos.
3. Plastic tub to set it,
4. Tool kit consists of magnifying glass, hammer, brush, knife.
5. Water.
Dino puzzle pieces and mini Dino’s can be purchased from Day to Day. Even the tool kit supplies.
Add the plaster in an empty container, add a little water to it. Mix it well. Put dino bones, mini dinos inside. Place them in such a way that you cant see them. Let it dry for a couple of hours. Remove it from the container.
Place it in a tub so they can work inside and plaster pieces don’t fly around everywhere. As you can see they can notice a dino so they are working towards digging it out intact.
One is digging, hammering and other is using the magnifying glass to brush off the extra sand from Dino bones. It is all about teamwork!
AJ carefully trying to keep the Dino fossils intact.

This project made us all so happy.
